BigStylist.com, a Home Salon Service Review. Is it worth it?

Among the home salon services, I think I have now officially covered all of them. I know that sounds very comprehensive but these people advertise to me on Facebook and Instagram all the time, so really, not so difficult. But, and I have said this before, the thing with home salon services is that you actually have to get off your bum and help the person out which, well, not so fun. Anyway, I got the people at BigStylist over. Here’s what happened. First things first, they tell you that you can get 4 services done for Rs.999. This is not true. Once you do go to the website and click on the services you want, all the while feeling rather smug for getting such a good deal, you get a rude shock when you get a message saying you’ve booked services for Rs.1149. While that certainly isn’t expensive, if I am going to pay taxes or whatever, just let me know upfront. The Service Once I made the booking and made peace with the …

Product Review: Kaya Skin Awakening Rinse and Brightening Eye Serum

The description here is long. I know. But also this is a post about how dermatologists in our country are probably smoking up some very potent stuff. A lady at the Kaya counter was a very good sales person and she convinced I needed a facewash for the morning. Which let me tell you now, you don’t. You never will. A face wash doesn’t know timing and will do its job in the AM and PM. Yeah, so I didn’t need it and you won’t also. She also managed to sell me the Kaya Brightening and Firming Eye Serum promising me it would reduce my dark circles. Now if you don’t know, when someone says erases dark circles I will buy the product before they get to the end of their sentence. Yes, I am extremely gullible. So here’s a review of these two products. Kaya Skin Awakening Rinse Like I said, you don’t need a morning face wash. This fact was further driven home when I started using this product. It does absolutely nothing. …

Hair Service Review: Nalini’s of Nalini and Yasmin, Bandra

About 10 years ago, when hairstyling wasn’t exactly cool Nalini and Yasmin were the rockstars of the hair world. A lot of time was spent trying to get an appointment at this Bandra salon and the cool people there- the ones with weird hair and nose piercings (that’s how we knew they were cool back then)- were spotted milling about here. For me, at that time, it was the epitome of coolness. Since then, I got a nose piercing but I am nowhere close to cool so, yeah. When a friend, Neha Doshi, recently asked me where she should go to get her hair trimmed I suggested going to this old school favourite. Now, it’s called Nalini’s. I don’t know why? What happened to Yasmin? Are they still friends? Is there something sinister here? And it is because I do this that I am being kept away from detective novels. Anyway, so Neha booked an appointment and the both of made our way to this place which is exactly where N&Y used to be. Except …

Nykaa Haul and Website Review

Okay, you can’t exactly call this a haul because I only bought two items but they are expensive okay? Expensive enough for Nykaa to send me a free nail polish and all. I bought this. See picture below. So the thing is, besides Nykaa, I don’t know many websites that stock as many beauty brands and products. Do you know any? I recently tried beautybay.com but their parcel that was dispatched on the 6th of April hasn’t made it to my place yet so, yeah, confidence is nosediving. Majorly. Anyway, let’s get on with the review, shall we? First things first. The interface of Nykaa is extremely average and very, very sales-y. I mean , just look at all these offers. And this is when you just log on to the website.   So, yeah, I don’t like the interface too much. They could definitely use some decluttering of the website. Have things look cleaner, nicer and make the shopping experience more relaxed than having to catch a sale you might miss. They have a …

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

There comes a time in every blogger’s life where they must cave in to pressure of doing a routine post. I caved, okay? I gave in. But admit it, secretly, you were dying to know my nighttime skincare routine. No? Okay, atleast you are normal. Anyway, after tweaking and turning my skincare routine upside down, I realised that a long-drawn routine just wasn’t my thing. If I am going to load up the products on my skin before I snooze, I get bored and don’t end up doing anything at all. So I truncated my to-dos. And here’s what I do now. Squeaky Clean I was doing a makeup course with an academy called Fat Mu here in Mumbai. And we would have lots of makeup on our faces everyday. And that’s where I also discovered the beauty of micellar water. Micellar water has oil molecules suspended in it. It all sounds very fancy and it probably is but more importantly, I like what it does. Now, I knew about this. What with all the …

#Firstlook and Store Walk Through: Sephora, Mumbai

Sephora has come to Mumbai. This is such a happy time for a makeup junkie like me. So i went over to High Street Phoenix aka Palladium to check the store out. The store launched on 30th January and I wasn’t in town (My brother was getting engaged) and I couldn’t check it out when media was invited. Not that I got an invite but I would have wriggled my way through, for sure. Anyway, this black and white makeup haven is on the 2nd floor and you can spot it from a mile away, mainly because its white is , well, very white and bright. I literally ran up to the store (if you saw anyone whizzing past you on the escalator at Phoenix today, it was probably me) and then decided to be smart and ask the store manager- Hina- if I could take a few pictures and do a store walk-through. She said that they couldn’t allow me to take pictures and that picture-taking was only open for the day of the …

PVR Cinemas App Review + PVR Cinemas, Kurla Review

I am going to admit it. Sometimes, if I know the movie is going to be crap, I only go for the popcorn. And sometimes, even when the movie is good, I basically go because I want popcorn. I also love watching movies in a cinema. There’s just a different charm to it. Even if it’s not big screen friendly. Don’t you feel like everyone is in on this one single experience and that’s pretty cool, right? No. Oh okay. Yeah, I am not very deep myself. Anyway, so I am going to review the PVR Cinema app and the cinema itself. I am doing this review because I love reviews and secondly it gives you an idea of where you should go watch a movie if you want clean seats, decent popcorn and a great deal on both. PVR Cinemas App Review I downloaded the PVR Cinemas App because I thought the BookMyShow app was charging me a huge convenience fee. I mean, I end up paying a tickets’ worth of extra money when …
