Hair Product Review: Bed Head TIGI Epic Volume Conditioner

You know what the real problem is? That we get hair where we don’t want it and not where we actually want it. That’s just so deep of me. So remember that haircut I got from Mad O Wat? Yeah, well, I have finally outgrown it and I like what my hair is doing now. To give it some more loving, I am going all out. You remember that I loved the Bed Head TIGI Urban Anti-dotes range, Re-energize Shampoo and that I was kind of going cray cray about how good it is? Anyway, so I went and bought it all over again (Yes, I did love it that much) and because I am such a fan of experimenting, I got the Bed Head TIGI Epic Volume Conditioner as well. If your hair is anything like mine- you wash it today and tomorrow it’s a limp mop – you know that your hair needs some lift and bounce and I thought it would do just that. So, here’s the review. Hair Service Review (Men): Drama Salon, Ghatkopar West

I strongly believe that there’s a lot you can do with women’s hair. You know, cut it (but of course, keep the length), colour it, streak it, snip it short, add extensions, basically, plenty. With men, you can either cut it short, cut it very short or cut it too short and make them look like they are headed into the military. Of course, you can add colour but men and colour, I am on the fence on that one. I knew someone who desperately needed a haircut and whose idea of a haircut was running to his local barber. And apparently it was great because you get ‘champi’ at the end of the cut. It took a lot of pleading and promising I would give him a head massage on my part to get him to agree to this review.  I did my research and decided to take him to Drama Salon at Ghatkopar West. I know, Drama Salon isn’t a chain or all that popular but it has an interesting story. The thing …

Hair Service Review: Wynn Salon and Spa (previously Warren Tricomi)

You know when you a child asks you for something and you fool them by telling them the crow took it? Yeah, that was kind of my situation during this review. When I wasn’t looking, Warren Tricomi upped and left with their brand name and I ended up reviewing what I was handed. It wasn’t a wynn-wynn situation at all. I did call up earlier and the lady at the reception may have said Wynn Salon and Spa but it didn’t register. So till I got there, I was still assuming I was going to review Warren Tricomi. Then, as I drove to the place, I realized the name had changed. This is also caused me to brake awkwardly in the middle of the road and behind me, irked drivers unleashed their choicest abusive words from their fine repertoire. Anyway, I went in confused and considerably annoyed that this had happened. I am careful to review brands of repute and I hoped this wasn’t going to put a spanner in the works. Anyway, as I …

4 hair and makeup lessons Aishwarya’s Cannes appearances taught us

Did you know that Aishwarya has been walking the red carpet at Cannes for 13 years now? Yup, that long. And her hair and makeup has been hit and miss. Sometimes, miss by a very large margin. Sometimes she decided to just chuck good sense and look like something a bottle of olive oil had been overturned on her. But along the way, she taught a few important lessons about getting hair and makeup right. Here’s what we can learn from her. Whine about the shine. For a few years in the beginning of her appearances, Aishwarya’s makeup artist overturned quite a few glitters pots. Especially on the eyes, the person went to town so Aishwarya. It reminded me of the times I ended up looking like a Christmas tree at a cousin’s sangeet when we hired an overenthusiastic makeup artist. There was a bit of a yoyo with Aishwarya (no glittery eyes in 2006, back in 2007) before she dumped that look for good and thank god for that. Lesson: When using shimmer or …

Hair Service Review: BBlunt, R City, Mumbai

The space BBlunt is a chain of salons started by Adhuna Akhtar (Farhan Akhtar’s wife) and her partners. As with anything decent, the central suburbs get the brand much after the rest of the world. So R City in Ghatkopar got its BBlunt on 22nd November, 2014. Just so you know, the first salon in Mumbai was start in 1998. BBlunt replaces Drama Salon on the 3rd floor. The salon interiors are a lot of black and white, distressed mirrors and old world switches. It was almost like walking through a Parsi household. When they wash your hair, you will notice that the pipes are pink and are fun to stare at for just that reason. The armchairs in the nails section look super interesting featuring a paisley print and the salon is spacious so your hair isn’t landing on someone else’s cape. The services I had booked an appointment and when I walked in and I generally prefer booking advance which gives the salon time to do its job well. They have 3 levels …
