How The Mumbai Rains Pan Out For All of Us

Scene 1 Wake up to the pitter patter of raindrops, the trees looking perfectly drenched and the smell of wet earth. Also, chiffon sarees come to your mind fleetingly. Thoughts: Yay. I want to sleep a little more. Action: Crawl back into blanket, hit snooze button several hundred times. Scene 2 It’s still raining. The towel is still wet from yesterday’s shower. It’s time to try and get to work Thoughts: Wow, a little too much rain no? Action: Several shots clicked for Instagram Scene 3 It’s still raining. Most rain-appropriate gear has been worn. Wellington boots, pants hitched up to knee. Scuba diving gear has been procured for times of emergency. Time to head to breakfast table. Thoughts: I am going to be so late. But look at the rains! Could it be a holiday? Action: Stuff breakfast into mouth while reading tweets and unfunny Whatsapp forwards. All this while discussing with family how work will be reached. Scene 4 It’s still raining. Rickshaw is taken to station. Rickshaws unavailable, umbrella doing a nifty …

6 things you didn’t know about Netherlands..but should

All of us know Netherlands. Or we think we do. Like we know about the tulips, the beautiful canals, the rich history etc. Some of us may even know about the red light district. Actually, most of us only know that part of Netherlands. But there’s a lot more to this country than just scantily clad women and coffee shops that offer more than just coffee. Mumbai is playing host to a Holland Meets Mumbai initiative by the by the Dutch Consulate in Mumbai and the Kingdom of the Netherlands in India from 1st to 7th June 2015 and there’s loads you will discover about this country. But here are a few interesting things that we thought we should share. 1. That Netherlands is described as a consociational state. Google the word. I didn’t know it either. This means that the monarch is the head of state but the position comes with limited powers. The power of decision making lies with the Dutch cabinet that consists of 13-16 ministers. 2. Unilever is a partly Dutch …

5 things you should be doing in your relationship right now

If you’ve ever read any advice on how to keep a relationship going, you would know the concept of date night. It’s where both the people in the relationship take time off from their work, dress up and head to a fancy, usually expensive restaurant to spend quality time together. What no one ever tells you is what really happens on these dates. Scenario one, husband asks wife where she wants to go. Wife gets pissed that husband hasn’t put in enough effort to even think of a place. Loses her cool. Fight ensues. Scenario two, both start talking about how they are so glad they did this and they should do it more often. Wife brings up something that happened at home. Husband says can’t you leave it for right now. Wife says he never listens to her. Fight ensues. Scenario three- husband is dressed and waiting. Wife takes time to get dressed. Husband wants to be back for football game but can’t tell her. She is finally dressed. He seems distracted during date …

10 things no one tells you about being a copywriter

Having a blog is fun but it also means that you are broke and alone most of the time. So, the good Samaritan that I am, posted on a media forum that I would like to help out people who were confused about careers and getting into copywriting. And man was I flooded! People asked me a lot of things but here’s a few things that they don’t tell you about copywriting. Some of the things in here will surprise you, some not. 1) Copywriting is not about writing Well it is. But it isn’t just about writing. Yes, you do need the ability to string together a sentence but that’s not where it stops. You need to be able to ideate. You need to think if that one more way to sell orange juice. And you need to do it on a deadline. 2) It’s not for freshers. Unless. The cold, honest truth? The short stories and plays written in college will barely get you a foot in the door. It does give you …

7 ways to make Mondays fun (Okay, maybe not fun, but like bearable)

Everyone loves Fridays. They are like the cool people at a party who have everyone’s attention. Mondays, on the other hand, are like the wallflowers at the party that everyone’s trying to avoid and still feeling bad about. It must suck to be a Monday. But Mondays don’t have to suck. I give you 5 ways to make Mondays much, much more bearable. 1) Work Out Of course you don’t want to get out of your blanket. Change that! On Mondays, lace up and get active. Go for a run, chase your children around the house, do anything but work out. Working out releases endorphins that are guaranteed to put you in a good mood. For an extra boost of energy, make sure you’ve got your favourite songs on your Ipod. 2) Plan out something special for the week Wanted to really watch a movie? Schedule it when you get to work on Monday. Or work in a date with a friend. Plan to catch on some reading. Anything that you have been postponing for …

5 games to make Sundays a family affair- Once again

As much as we love weekends, Sundays can be a drag because by now we are done chilling out (aka being drunk out of our brains) and you don’t want to do anything strenuous in preparation for the week ahead (aka 5 days of slavery). The malls with their fancy AC, cool brands and the food court tempt most people but on Sundays they are bursting at the seams with some very bored adults and very happy squealing children. The cinemas are running some monkey business hiking their prices so much on the weekend that you have to choose between surviving a month and watching a movie. So really, why would you want to step out? Get your friends over, grab a few beers and settle down with these games. Why do they work? Because A. They are super funny B. They can also get super competitive. Here is my list in the order of the fun you can have: 5) Scrabble: This game has been around for pretty long but I think it deserves a …
