It’s been a while since I did a salon review. Makes you think I haven’t been going to salons, huh? Okay, that is partially true. There are salons mushrooming up everywhere and it’s really worrying because well, the standards of service are average in many. Anyway, I found Dr. Ekta Bhatia who was looking for a haircut and was willing to put the appointment taking, the salon researching and more into my very able hands. So here’s a before picture. Ekta is a physiotherapist and wanted a fuss free hairstyle.
What are we reviewing today? The Savio John Pereira Salon in Bandra. It’s located next to The Bagel Shop. And there’s one itsy bitsy sign telling you it’s there. I wasn’t expecting much but I was surprised with the space the salon had. I’ll tell you all about it in the review. Come.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I have a soft spot for these old Bandra bungalows. You know with the shuttered windows and slanted roofs. Savio’s salon is located in one of these. While it doesn’t look like much from the outside, from the inside it’s a space done up well. It’s airy, quaint and really cute.
I called them quite early. I mean, two days early and that’s quite a stretch for me. They told me they were shut on Mondays so I took the appointment for Tuesday. I asked for a junior stylist. The lady at the desk (I forget her name) said the junior stylist wasn’t available for the time I had asked and gave me a later time. I was, meh, they are just throwing their weight around. the lady at the desk was polite. She asked for my name but not my number but I assumed that turned up in their system.
I am not the one to go by popularity ratings but this salon sure has a lot of devoted, happy clients. I mean, it was 3 in the afternoon on a Tuesday and the salon was packed! There were people waiting for their turn and everything. We had to wait for about 10 minutes after which Ekta was seated and asked what she wanted. We asked for them to go a little short but not too much and give her something to give her face softness. At this point, a lady called Suman was talking to Ekta. Once the cut was decided, another lady came to give her hair a wash. Ekta was handed a robe which looked like the one wrestlers wear before a bout. One thing that struck me as odd was that the backbar didn’t have any branded products- it just said shampoo, conditioner and the like. A little surprising for a salon of this repute.
Once washed, washing lady was replaced by Suman. A white bib was put on the the cut started. Once done, anonymous lady no.2 dried and styled Ekta’s hair. They straightened her hair and when asked why, they said it helps them gauge the cut better. They did make Ekta stand and gave her hair the finishing touches. Overall, the cut look fabulous and Dr. Ekta looked even better.
By the way, the man himself was in the house and I sneakily clicked pictures of him. Yes, I am a creep.
That’s a wrap
