Let’s admit it, everyone has good hair days when their hair does amazing things and you look like you could easily get a hair commercial and then you’ve days when your hair sits on your head like a giant mop, stubbornly refusing to move. I was having mixed days and was kind of bored of looking the same which is why I decided a haircut must be had. Since this would be my only chance to do a review for a haircut in like 3 months, I decided to try a new place and obviously Mad O Wat came to mind. It has the very cool Sapna Bhavnani at the helm. Known sadly for being on Big Boss (what a terrible claim to fame especially when she owns a salon that is known for being quirky), I hoped she would be around. She was but I couldn’t afford her. Unless I gave up on dinner for the next few months or something. Anyhoo, I went to their website, which was so much fun by the way, I ended up being on it much longer than necessary or normal. I got an appointment and went over. Here’s my review.

The Space

The Mad O Wat in the Pali Village area is on the ground floor and features some quirky décor on the outside. Refer to above picture. Inside, they are obviously going for fun/grunge. They have the distressed look down pat. Plus, they have lots of light everywhere which kind of made pictures look super ugly. Every person gets a full length mirror while they get a haircut which means you get to look at your protruding belly. Okay that may only be me. There was also a bottle of milk next on the stand next to every table but my stylist told me that was no milk but something they use for sterilizing. But how very observational of me, don’t you think?

The Service

I chose to go with a junior stylist which on the website said would charge Rs.800 but I was told when I called it would be Rs.1000. And I said I was okay with that. Vidhi, my stylist, took a while to come down (I assume there’s a loft where all the stylists silently bitch about their clients) and didn’t seem very happy to have a client, initially atleast. They had two meek looking girls armed with a broom and pan who worked like hair ninjas making it disappear off the floor mere minutes after a haircut.

The person at the desk did call me to confirm the appointment and that’s always a good thing.

The Experience

Vidhi started by asking me what I wanted to do with my hair. I told her I had a wedding to attend in September and would require enough hair to put into an updo. Once that was discussed, she said she would go short but not so short that I couldn’t manage to a decent updo. Decent is used loosely here. Vidhi then proceeded to wash my hair. I was given a cape and the haircut began. She gradually started chatting with me. Enough to keep me interested and not so much that I thought she was invading my privacy. Once my cut was done, she sort of dried my hair, gave it finishing touches and then gave a all out blow dry. I wasn’t expecting my hair to be so short but it looked nice, so I was happy but had to wait for it to sink in. I must mention though that when I got my MyGlamm service done, the stylist mentioned my cut was done very well. I think she may have been slightly more enthusiastic with the scisscors than I thought she was but it looked quite nice. I do think that I like my hair longer though. By the way, all this while, Sapna Bhavnani was there giving clients cuts and looking quite cool with silver hair. She looks like she was completely cut out to be a hair stylist.
