It’s not often that you get a chance to attend an event where you get information, some very interesting view points and get a chance to test your knowledge in a particular subject. So when Blogadda invited me to attend the Knowledge Factory recently, I was intrigued and excited. And it was a fun event that you should certainly sign up for.
Speakers from all walks of life shared inputs, insights and plenty of advice that was usable. Chef Vikas Seth and Gresham Fernandes talked about the trends in the market – quinoa ,kale- and the like and promoted the use of more local produce. The conversation was insightful, witty and got us thinking about the food we consume. Perhaps we were shelling out much more than we should.
A talk by Richa Chadha was fun and interesting commentary on the state of the environment we live in today. The line ‘A few years ago, people would have laughed at us if we talked about buying bottled water. Our kids are going to have to buy bottled air’ stayed with me long after her chat was over.
Theatre personalities Sanjana Kapoor, Deepa Gahlot and Subodh Maskara talked about the lack of venues in a city like Mumbai. Space constraints and therefore the limitations that theatre has to live with, the introduction of the concept of Cineplay and much were discussed at Knowledge Factory. This was an impressive, passionate panel.
A discussion with Sona Mahapatra, Ganesh Natarajan and Senthil Chengalvarayan about the gender pay gap across industries had all of us glued. Sona Mahapatra had a captive audience when she said lamented on the lack of female voices in movies, television and even television commercials. And of course, the pay which discriminated on the basis of gender. The men, stalwarts in their own right, pitched in with ideas to bring about a change.
The day ended with a fun Bollywood quiz that had some tough questions but the teams were prepared and answered with aplomb.Overall, Knowledge Factory lived up to its name of delivering knowledge. A great day out.
