Skin Service Review: The Home Salon

I have been wanting to review The Home Salon for a while now. I read an interview of the founder and owner of this service and she sounded good. I lie a little. She said that they make sure they take of the tiny things and have their service with candles and stuff and I was sold on that. Yes, I am awfully easy to please. Also, I am headed to Manali for a two week trip-eeee, so excited and I needed to look spiffy for the locals there. Coz who doesn’t love a plump, waxed and threaded woman from Mumbai up in the hills, right? Maybe they don’t notice the hair but I wasn’t taking any chances. So I went to THS website and booked an appointment there. Here’s a review. The Space Oh come on, it’s a home salon service. My home is very pretty, okay? The Service Ooh. They faltered. I went to the website and made the booking. The booking said I would receive a call from a particular number. I …

Spa and Salon Review: Zazen Boutique Spa, Juhu

I had seen Zazen at a few places on my way to work and it looked lovely and very promising. I was then lured by an offer on Groupon (now nearbuy) that offered a a foot massage at Zazen for under Rs.500 and I was hooked. I bought the deal and made an appointment at Zazen. The appointment I took was for 4:30 but I ended up getting there before time which you already know is rare in my case. Anyway, let’s get on to the review. The Space The thing is, when you enter Zazen, you get the feeling that you are in the reception of some corporate office. I half expected a man in a blazer to walk past and get into a meeting. There were three men behind the desk when I got there and somehow to me, that was a bit too many. All these people talk across the room as they walk around which makes it seem more like a casual coffee shop than a spa. There’s clearly no respect …

Body Service Review: Iosis Salon and Spa, Chembur

I had a particularly tough workout and I obviously thought I deserved some pampering. When I say difficult workout I mean my butt was  hurting and I was walking like a duck. Another thing is , Shilpa Shetty seems to be always looking radiant and I am going to assume she goes to her own spa to look that way. Anyway, I decided to head to Iosis. Iosis is a spa, salon, slimming and skin (?!) place in Chembur and other places. It’s a venture by Kiran Bawa and Shilpa Shetty. I chose Chembur because the one in Ghatkopar doesn’t look very pampering or inviting. The Chembur one was all pretty with lights and a verandah but when I went there it was covered in blue tarapaulin and looked quite staid. Anyway, I headed in. The Space As discussed, I had never been inside the Iosis centre in Chembur but this time it was all blue. The inside has Buddha statues. I think the minute you say pampering or spa, Buddha statues are dispatched your …

Spa Review: Kairali Ayurvedic Health Spa, Chembur

The Kairali Ayurvedic Health Spa is located in a quiet by-lane of Chembur. Which is probably good because no one wants to near anyone who smells like they took a dunk in very strong smelling oils. But we knew that about Ayurvedic massages. They are vigorous for the most part, use a lot of oil (so much oil that I saw some people frying some bhaturas outside. Not really, but you could), and involve long, firm strokes. I was invited by the PR person to avail of a service at their Mumbai centre – they have only one- in Chembur. I was in town that day and got stuck in some horrible traffic which means I reached the centre an hour late. Yes, I did apologise profusely. They were really nice and accommodating, they moved around a couple of other appointments to fit me in. And they knew I was coming and all that which is always super because I have had some horrifying experiences with PR people not communication with their brand. Here’s my …

Spa Review: AromaThai Foot Spa, R City

If you’ve been spoiled by Thailand, India is no place for you. Cheap, paid services aren’t easily available here. By services, I mean massages but of course that’s what you were thinking as well. You know when you go to Thailand and there are so many massage parlours and you pop in for a foot massage and you feel awesome because it’s just so cheap? Yeah, that doesn’t happen in Mumbai. Especially if the place is located in a mall. I opted for a foot massage from Aromathai Foot Spa. What follows is a soleful experience. *Laughs manically* I love puns! The space Located on the third floor of R City, Aromathai Foot Spa stands awkwardly between a whole line of restaurants. The entrance consists of a tiny seating area and a desk behind which a spa manager stands. Inside, the foot massage area has four chairs and I couldn’t see much of the rest of the spa but they do offer full body therapies for which I assume they have rooms. This spa stands …

Spa Review: Myrah Spa, Juhu

Let’s admit it, we are not a spa going populace. Our idea of de-stressing is to backslap a couple of friends at a bar over a few drinks. So, if you do decide to go to spa, you are most likely to end up running a Google search for the spas closest to you. Then, as you gently click on the price list and palpitate, your stress increases which means by the time you have booked the appointment, you need it quite urgently. If your Google search spas in Mumbai, Myrah is likely to show up on most lists. And I headed to this day spa, on a rather balmy, sunny day. I arrived, sunburnt and shriveled up like a prune. The Space Myrah is located in a quiet back lane and is easily missable. Inside, the place is quiet, delicately fragranced with lemongrass ( a smell spas tend to favour). There are several treatment rooms and rooms dedicated to couples’ therapy as well. Each room has a name which is prefixed with ‘aura’. So, …
