There’s lots of things that give you relief. Like a glass of water when you are thirsty, or cold shower on a hot day. Or getting flirted with when you are feeling particularly ugly or have had a nasty fight with your partner. What? It’s a relief you are pretty, right?
But nothing, and I mean nothing provides more relief that unhooking a bra at night. When the boobs are free to go where they please and jiggle any way they want. That’s real relief. And that’s not a problem. However, a lot of us are wearing the wrong bra or just a bra not doing it for us. And we don’t even know it. Sometimes, women just don’t care or they think it’s too expensive but they are your boobs and you have to love them. And you can only show them love by investing in good bras. Here are a few bra mistakes you are probably making. Which I made as well. Then, I learned my lesson.
- Buy try
Every brand and even every style in every brand can make a difference to how the bra fits. So if you want to buy one, you’ve got to try it. If you are going to buy a wired and a non-wired one from the same brand, still try both, they will look different.
2. Don’t just stand there
You don’t have to start working out. I mean it’s weird when you start doing that in a store but bras are supposed to be with you through thick and thin and you don’t just take them at their word. Now, when you got into a changing room and you wear a bra, you just stand there and check if they are any good. NO. That’s the problem. Move around, bend, jump and check if your boobs are still firmly in place, if they are , go crazy and buy the bra in every colour. Also, take along the tightest t-shirt you can find in the store and wear it to know if the bra’s doing its job.
3. You are uptight
Don’t say no to trying out new styles. Padded, non-padded, wired, non-wired, push up, plunge, balcony. Whatever it is, give it a try. You won’t know if it works for you unless you’ve tried a few options. Also, having options means you can play around when you are wearing different kinds of clothes. And don’t try your bra with the last or first hook, always on the middle hook, that way you know how it will look exactly.
4. Look in all directions
How do you really know if the bra is working for you? Check in four areas –
-above the cup, if there is any spillage which means you have four boobs, the cups are two snug
- below the bra, if you raise your hands and some boob shows or your bra lifts up revealing boob, the bra is not correct
- on the side, if there’s some fat created under your arm, that’s going to look quite bad, so avoid that bra. You might want to go for a bigger size or fuller band around the chest.
- at the back. If you have cleavage at the back, please know, for sure, that that bra is quite completely and totally not right for you.
5. Size does matter
In India, we have a bunch of loonies selling bras. People who at best guesstimate your size by staring at your tits or do a basic measurement. That’s a horrible way to figure your size out. There are lots of articles to tell you how to measure your size so check those out but I find that knowing your size approximately and then checking out your options at the store works the best.
6. Don’t go tits up
Don’t wing it when you are buying a bra. Know your size. Also know, that your size can change due to many things – weight loss, pregnancy, hormones etc. By the way, you know that if you and a friend are the exact same size, you can still look entirely different when you wear the same bra right? So yeah, there’s a lot of bras trying to do before you can find good support.
7. This looks the chest!
You know what bras are there but each one will change the way your boobs like look. For example, you are always going to look slightly wider in a balcony bra than in a t-shirt bra. Or a bandeau bra is always going to flatten you out a little bit. Or that if you have perky tits, wearing a push up is going to literally make it look like your sucking your own tatas. Epic fail. So choose a bra according to your outfit.
