The most lit festival of the year is here. And by lit, I am of course, talking about the fact that there will be plenty of diyas. Diwali is here and while there will be lots of fun and parties, there won’t be lots of sleep or skincare so I put together some doable things to keep your skin game going strong. Because at the altar of enjoyment, skin is probably the first sacrifice. So deep I am . Deep? Geddit? Like a diya? Okay, fine.
- Water it Down
On a normal day, plenty of water is recommended. With drinks, fried food and late night parties taking centre stage this Diwali, the best way to help your skin is to keep diluting it all down with lots and lots of water. Up your intake of H2O. Drink more water between drinks and even otherwise. You skin will emerge unscathed from the onslaught of the binge fest that is Diwali.
2. Move your bum
I know, I know your plan is to sleep in, gorge on ghee-laden yummies and generally be as indulgent as you can be . But, you know real life is going to come into play post Diwali and all you’ll have to show for your celebrations will be a belly and lots of gas. Here’s an idea. Fit in a workout. Maybe not the whole hog. Maybe just 10 minutes. If the workout seems like too much work, don’t get off the dance floor. Just be there. Hug it. Sweat on it. Ensure that workout happens. Your skin will thank you for it.
3. Ditch the fizz
Okay, so it’s going to involve drinking but we all knew that. What would be better though is not mixing your drinks with fizzy drinks. Skip those for fruit juices (only marginally better, if at all) or just mix it water. Yes, I know I am ruining your fun. But your skin, that you’ve got to take care of right?
4. Makeup massacre
After you are back from the festivities and finally get to ditch those clothes and flop into bed, there’s 0 energy or time that you want to invest into taking off your makeup. But this you must. Must. Absolutely must. Take off your makeup. Did I say that loudly? Yes, I meant to. Take off your makeup!
5. Steam and scrub
DIY it this Diwali. Take it into your own hands. Heat up some water and duck under a towel. Take the steam on your face. This will unclog your pores and give them some space to breathe. Follow it up with a gentle scrub. Easy does it!
