If you are reading this standing up, you are burning 53% more calories. I know right?  We should do everything standing up.  I learned this and a lot more when I attended the launch of the Saffolalife Study 2017 which talked about India’s barriers to heart health. This was done on the occasion of World Heart Day which has everything to do with the physical functioning of your heart and nothing to do with your break up so stop with your sob story. In this Saffolalife Study, conducted across cities, they found some very interesting but not really unpredictable reasons for Mumbai not being healthy. I list them here.

  1. We can’t ignore tasty food.

Mumbai, quite honestly, said that we can’t resist tasty food. Dangle a french fry and a french bean in front of us and we tend to go for the french fry because it’s fattening and not good for you and health can wait. Dr. Shashank Joshi who delivered this study said that while you it’s not necessary to give up the food, you certainly should share it. Mumbai basically has zero control.

2. We work our way to unhealthiness

According to the Saffolalife Study 2017, Mumbai is doggedly working its way into a dangerous heart zone. Long working hours in the hope of the promotion that never happens keeps us from making efforts towards being healthy. Of course, since we are in Mumbai, we also spent more amount getting to work than being at work, so that may be contributing as well.

3. We *heart* money

While we seem to have taken household and job stress into our stride, we are rather put off by the fact that healthy food may be expensive and requires shelling out more money. Great Mumbai, so now not only are we unhealthy and greedy, we are misers also.

Overall, the Saffolalife Study 2017 threw up some interesting reasons for Mumbaikars not being heart healthy. Let’s turn this around this year
