Product Review: Lotus Herbals UV Screen Matte Gel

Look the monsoon is supposed to be around the corner but the corner is far, far away. So while we are sweltering and our faces are melting off, we need sunscreen. And sunscreens are sticky. Very sticky, going by what we have in the market right now. Every sunscreen that I have tried to date has left my face feeling like you could put notes on it and it will hold up. Oh  and slightly whitish- like you were attempting to be a ghost but gave up midway.

As is protocol, when you get sick of all sunscreens, you turn to Lotus Herbals UV Matte Gel or Neutrogena. I turned to Lotus Herbals. Here’s my review.

Lotus Herbals UV Screen Matte Gel

Feel: It feels like a gel. And that’s so awesome for a sunscreen dude. It goes on easy and disappears in minutes. You’ll feel like you’ve not even put anything on. Best bit? No whitish aftermath. Isn’t that super?

Fragrance: It smells unlike a sunscreen. It’s mildly fragrant but you can’t tell when you put it on. It’s a fresh smell, though. (See swatch to see how product disappears.

Price: Rs. 395 for 100g . Expensive? Maybe, but only slightly so. And it does last you a whole 6 months or more, so absolutely worth it.

Buy it at:  Lotus Herbals counters, department stores, pharmacies and beauty websites.

Verdict: I LOVE it. I said it in all caps. I must’ve really loved it. But I do. I use this everyday and it’s perfect for when you want to feel like you want nothing on. And it protects. The only con? That it promises to protect you from tanning  and while it does do that to a great extent, you can get a bit of a darker colour if you are out in the sun too long. That also maybe because you sweat and the sunscreen goes off, but still. I don’t think it’s waterproof so that’s a bit of a downer. But for everyday, this one is a charm.

Update: I am a dummy for forgetting to mention the SPF on this. It’s SPF 50 and protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.

    • You’re absolutely spot on. I used to think that because they’re a ‘herbal’ brand, they won’t have them but it does. I know that’s a bummer.
