Nail Service Review: Looks Salon, Saket, Delhi

It’s been a while since I have posted huh? Well, I have been travelling. And I went to Delhi. Now since I was there for a couple of days, I did a few things. Of course, I did consume an insane amount of food. How do people in Delhi even try and stay skinny? And then I went over to the salons everyone told me about and did reviews. Here’s a review of the Looks Salon in Saket.

Looks is one of the popular salons in the Delhi / Gurgaon area and pretty much every popular place you go to ends up having Looks, Affinity and Geetanjali, literally next to each other. I went to Looks first. But don’t worry (not that you were, because who worries about that?) I have covered the others as well.

The Space

Look, we know. Delhi has no space constraints. So obviously, this salon was big. A little bit like a labyrinth with tiny passageways to I don’t know mysterious hair treatments but big nonetheless. I went to the one in Select Citywalk in Saket. I called up for a manicure appointment.

The Service

I had obviously called for an appointment. I spoke to guy called Sahil who said I really didn’t need an appointment and could walk in any time I wanted. Which was cool but I thought they might have been a little not busy or something. They didn’t call up to confirm the appointment but then I didn’t really know if they had even taken the appointment so I am a little sketchy here.

The Experience

Once I entered, I was told to wait. Somehow, everyone was glancing furtively at me like not enough women come in for manicures or something. Anyway, Shibam came along soon enough. I was taken to the hair area . Now this is what I find funny. Also, it’s a pattern because it happened twice to me but they don’t have specific nail sections or they don’t use them for manicures in Delhi. I have no idea why. Anyway, I am seated in the hair area, they turn my chair away from the mirror and facing the outside and proceed with the manicure.

Shibam got down to the manicure with a vengeance. He set about cutting my nails, perhaps a little too quickly and it scared me a little bit. Then after he had filed a nail, he asked me what shape I wanted. The products were not sterilized which is really icky. there were no specific nail products around there and he kept hiding the trolley from me so I wasn’t able to see what cream etc he was using. He did, alarmingly, use a post wax oils on my nails. I asked him why because I was right there with my hands and I am pretty sure no waxing took place. He shrugged it off.

I was asked for a drink and I took one rather gratefully. The manicure got over rather quickly, the nail polish application was average but the hygiene was very questionable. And pray tell me, what’s with the yellow water. Not very appealing to dip your hands in!

Verdict: I wouldn’t recommend Looks Salon for a relaxing nail affair. Maybe if you are looking for something cheap and are okay with products that look like the have been used on other people a few times.
