Contest: Fitness goodies up for grabs!

Remember this post where I did the things you can find in a girl’s bag? Yes, like I said, it can be kind of like a black hole. But a gym bag is right up there. You practically throw everything in there. And if you are going out to dinner or meeting up with friends after, you have to carry so much more. You obviously have your “gym” shoes, there’s the towel to wipe off the sweat when you are starting to look like you are losing your body mass in sweat.  If you are cool enough, you will also have a post workout protein shake.  Oh and please throw in a deodorant. I mean, after an intense fat busting routine, you are going to need plenty of that. And that’s what brings us to our contest. Fitternity’s Fitmania promotion means that you can get your hands on some Fitmania goodies – which includes awesome accessories and healthy eats. Yup, everything you need to look dapper and keep getting fit. Here’s where to go to grab some …

3 banking basics you need to know and review of HDFC Bank, Ghatkopar East

I am going to sound a little too fancy for my own boots with this post but I have grown up on a staple diet of ATMs and card swipes. Yes, I am spoilt like that and I am sure many of us in this generation are. With Netbanking and cards sent home, detours to the bank are barely on our itinerary. If a bank errand must be run, we send office boys running to the bank, so basically, we don’t know a bunch of stuff. I learned so much recently from just physically going to the bank to get few things done. I am also going to include a review of the HDFC Bank, Ghatkopar Branch here. I figure by now you know I live in this area and most reviews are going to atleast start from this place. Lessons from going to the bank You need a cheque to get a DD made I was applying for a visa to Malaysia and since they don’t accept cash payments for some of the charges, …

5 arguments against your excuses to not workout

And making this easy is Fitmania 2015 by Fittternity, a fitness sale that is going to make you want to whoop your bum into shape and do it in style. Excuse No. 1: I am too busy As surprising as this may sound to you, the rest of us only have 24 hours in a day as well. Yup, it’s true. You aren’t the only one who’s got a bad deal. So if we are jogging, skipping, or working out with our schedules, you can. And if it requires waking up early, you know you can sleep …

Nail Service Review: Nail Spa Experience, Khar West

I scour high and low for places I should review. And I travel far and wide to review these places. Sometimes, I even take the western line. So I googled places that provided fantastic nail services. And the name Nail Spa Experience came up. Now, I am not saying this isn’t a good name but it’s a little awkward if you name a child ‘Human’. Anyway, the full name of this salon/spa is Nail Spa Experience Style Salon and Spa. Basically, it’s just a lot of adjectives. And I arrived at this place expecting it to be quite lovely, I mean, it was supposed to be all about nails. That’s not what happened. Here’s what did. The Space Despite its very elaborate name and fancy location, Nail Spa Experience is one long room. The reception table is on your left, two tables for nail art and then 3 chairs for manicures and pedicures. The space is quite cramped and most of the times, the clients seem to be furious. The walls are done up in …

3 Halal Nail Polish Brands You Can Stock Up On

Women do lots of things for fun. Unlike what the movies would lead you to believe, we do not spend hours at a pyjama party prettily whacking each other with pillows and laughing senselessly making fun of ex-boyfriends. The second bit may be true. It’s also true that we do like painting our nails and can make quite a ritual of it. So I believe it’s quite a downer to know that Muslim women aren’t allowed to paint their nails. Why? Because a religious ritual requires them to wash up (wudu) before offering prayers. During this ritual, water must touch their nails for it to be considered valid. This means that most Muslim women often give up on getting their talons polished in every imaginable hue.  I have put together a list of brands that offer ‘breathable nail polish’ that allows water through. While I cannot confirm the veracity of the claims of each of these brands, these are the brands you could explore. For non-muslim women as well, breathable nail polish might mean less …

3 things I learnt from watching food shows on TV

A Bollywood adage says ‘Someone, somewhere is made for you.’ It’s the same with food shows on TV. There’s going to be one made for you. The one that either makes you want to weep with happiness at spotting a cupcake with perfect icing or a TV show that makes you want to step into the kitchen and cook up a storm.  Mostly, you just end up eating the cupcake with much ferocity and leave the aftermath of a storm in the kitchen which will have your help swearing at you. Point is, food shows on TV and us were meant to be. We fall in love, we give them time and money (by voting) and gradually evolve together. And in many ways, whether the relationship makes it through to the very end or not, we do learn a few things from TV shows. Like these. You go fancy with your food vocab You couldn’t tell Maggi from Top Ramen before them. Now, with every episode of Masterchef or a food show of your choice, …

Eating Right: Mango Salad with an Indian Twist

The monsoon season arrived thundering and bolting in June and threw the mango season out of action. Then, it’s July, the monsoons are wasting time on company laptops watching videos of cute clouds and we are left mango-less. We haven’t had our fill of this delicious fruit and that sucks. So, here’s a recipe for a mango salad that you can put together in less than ten minutes. Yup. And it tastes fabulous. Ingredients: Mangoes – 2 ripe (Totapuri variety) Iceberg lettuce – 1 fresh, leafy one Onion- 1 big Tomatoes – 2 medium or 3 small Cucumbers: 2 Coriander – finely chopped Peanuts – 1/2 a cup Salt, cumin powder and lemon juice Method: Dice all the veggies and the mangoes into cubes. Save the coriander. Add salt, cumin powder (jeera) and lemon juice according to your taste. Top with crunchy, toasted peanuts and the chopped coriander now. Throw in some feta cheese if you want and your salad is ready. This salad is perfect for when you are craving something indulgent without the …
