5 Best Beauty Buys of 2015

So the year is coming to an end and this is a fabulous time for all of us. We can dress up, party, drink ridiculous amount of alcohol and generally have a fabulous time with friends and family. To end this year on a high note, here’s my pick of the best beauty buys of 2015. I say beauty buys because these products have probably been around for a while but 2015 is when I fell in love with them. In no particular order, here they are: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate You know I love this product- I dedicated an entire review to it here. The smell, the work it does- fabulous overall. Yes, it’s pricey but I fell in love with what it had to offer and have been using it ever since I bought it. That says a lot for someone who tends to get bored pretty quickly. 2. Illuskin Facial Primer from Oriflame (The One range) I don’t think I have raved about this product enough. I have a bit but this …

6 Questions Every Indian Bride Should Ask Her Makeup Artist

Everyone will have you believe that if you are a girl, you spend a good part of your childhood planning your wedding. Some people do and some people don’t.Whatever the case is, I must admit that being a bride is fun. You get to buy new clothes, jewellery and stuff you don’t need and will never use because , well, you are the bride. But being a bride also comes with a lot of stress. And it can get overwhelming. Looking perfect for the pictures is probably one of the things the bride is most worried about. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Now, I have attended plenty of weddings and here are a few things that I think an Indian bride should ask her makeup artist. And these aren’t the usual ones but stuff that happens in real life and somethings you probably haven’t accounted for. 1.Is he/she going to be doing your makeup? You book a makeup artist and if it’s someone of repute, you think you are sorted, right? Wrong. …

5 Makeup Trends That Will Rock 2016

It’s that time of the year when you are going to be bombarded with various lists about the year gone by and the year that’s coming up and I thought, why should I not do the same? I mean, wouldn’t you want to read another list, right? But hey, this one is going to be helpful. You will, by the end of it, definitely know what products you should keep and what you should be throwing out of your makeup drawer. So I spoke to Kanika Gogia,  Makeup director of Toni&Guy, India and she pegs these 5 trends will be the ones everyone’s going to be wearing in 2016. 1. The No Makeup Look The No Makeup fresh faced look was a hit in 2015 and you’ll probably see a lot more of this in 2016. The next year is probably going to be about minimal makeup but a dewy, luminous face. Clean and clear skin is definitely in fashion but that’s every year. 2. The Exaggerated Liner Cat eyes were a staple in 2015. 2016 will …

Product Review: Elf Lip Exfoliator

So remember my Youtube Inspired Beauty Haul? Erm, it’s that link. Anyway, so the Elf Lip Exfoliator was a part of that beauty haul and I was super excited to try it because it looks like a lipstick but is a scrub. And it just looks like such a fun product to use. Plus, there are times when I get super dry lips with plenty of dead skin and I thought this was the answer to all that. So, here’s the review: Elf Lip Exfoliator Feel: Okay, the first thing – this is a super, super gentle scrub. I mean, I know you don’t want to slough off the dead skin and some skin of your lips but this one is just barely scrub-y. The first time I tried it, I barely felt the granules doing anything. I decided to give it a second go and it’s still a bit too gentle for my liking. Fragrance: It smells like vanilla and sugar. Basically, sweet. Price: Rs.1200 – 1600 for a tube. But it retails for 3 dollars on …

5 fitness tips from Sucheta Pal, Zumba Education Specialist

Over this weekend, well, technically only 6th of December, Phoenix Market City in Kurla had #FitFest going on. They had healthy eating workshops, Zumba classes, self defence classes and much more lined up. It was a terribly managed event with no visible signage of this going on, no timelines being met (The Zumba class that was supposed to start at 5:30pm started at 6:15) and no one really there to tell you what was going on. The word fest has been used very broadly in this context. There were a stalls here. The Aromathai Day Spa people gave up on trying to get clients and packed up by about 6pm. The other places like a brand selling active wear from Brazil looked deserted and no one seemed to be buying anything. Anyway, in all this, I managed to speak to Sucheta Pal who is a Zumba Education Specialist and Master Trainer for India. Which means that she’s the one who trains all the trainers who teach you Zumba. Here are her 5 tips to keeping …

YouTube Inspired Beauty Haul

I have been watching a lot of Youtube beauty and skincare videos (you know, because I am busy)  and there are certain products that have become cult favourites.I call Youtube video watching research, by the way. So these cult favourites are also insanely expensive here in India. I mean, so expensive your kidney couldn’t pay for it.  Which is why when I knew a dear friend was coming here from the US, I asked her to get me these things. There are the usual suspects and there are a few surprises in here. I should be reviewing all of these super soon. By the way, can I just say, I don’t know why these things are so expensive here? I mean, that Elf Lip Exfoliator you see? Yeah, that retails for 3 dollars. That’s about Rs.200. I go online and check the prices in India and Amazon is selling it at Rs.1000 and then some and so is Ebay. Even if I add shipping, it doesn’t work out Rs.800 for sure.   A quick explanation …

Hair Service Review: Envi Salon and Spa, Powai

So I am currently looking at the world only through one eye. I got conjunctivitis. But despite this, I braved the outside world and decided to do a salon review. Because if I don’t do it, where do you look for trustworthy reviews, right? I have been wanting to review Envi Salons for a while but never got around to doing it. In fact, I have called them several times, making an appointment but not turning up- and this has happened a couple of times. Yes, not good behaviour but I promise I had good reason. Anyhow, onto the review. The Space The Envi Salon and Spa in Powai has a posh location and sits pretty with fancy eateries for company. Inside, the place is spacious but seems in a little bit of a disarray with random parts of it boarded up with Kumkum wood. Yeah, go figure. The hair wash area also had some parts of it dug up and they didn’t even attempt to cover it. What? Unless they were planning to bury …
